VIRGINIA ANNE BONITO, PH.D., FAAR 1978 – 1980

Art Historian, Independent Scholar and Director of Conservation Interventions 

By way of introduction to my involvement in the restoration of cultural property, I am an Art  Historian with a B.A in History, Thomas More College, Fordham University, 1969; an M.A. in  Art History, Queens College, CUNY, 1972 and a Ph.D., Institute of Fine Arts. NYU, 1983 – with  specializations in Proto Renaissance; 15th and 16th Century Italian Renaissance Art and Architecture;  and Baroque Art.

I have further expertise in Impressionism, Post Impressionism, Modernism, Post  War American Realism / Figural Art, and Philosophies and Technologies of Conservation, subjects  which I have taught and written about in my capacities as an academic, author of scholarly  publications, and consultant to collectors and artists. After several decades as a Professor of Art  History, I entered the private sector as an independent scholar, consultant to select private collectors  and curator of cultural property.  

Apart from her appraisal services, Dr. Bonito has written essays on select items
from her clients’ collections upon their request.
